If you were born in the 70s or 80s chances are good that a big part of your childhood was spent wasting quarters in the local arcade, or in front of the Pac-Man machine at your local pizza place. MAME is a Free, non comercial software, and may be downloaded in lots of good sites.
The project was started by the Italian programmer Nicola Salmoria. MAME traces its roots to an earlier emulator project called Multi-Pac, but the name was changed as more games started to be emulated within the MAME framework.
The arcade machine all starts with an empty cabinet. You have some options to consider—buy an used arcade machine and gut it, buy cabinet pieces to assemble or just buy the plans and start from scratch. MDF burns pretty easily, be careful when your cutting it. Its no biggie cause youre likely to paint over it anyways but damn does it stink.

During the last decade, the popularity of the arcades has gradually but steadily declined, enough where there are hardly any “classic”-style machines left around at all. Of course, in order to preserve the games and demonstrate the emulated behavior matches the original, you have to also be able to actually take part in the games. The ROMs (games) are extremely easy to find by searching Google but remember most of them are copyright so you’ll need to check if your legally permitted to run them ;) A Japanese Arcade cabinet: They are white or light colored,mostly sitdown,and possess a coin slot around the control panel unlike the American cabinetswhich has a coin door around the front. TV is in, and it is a near-perfect fit, about 1/2 inch on each side, also it rests right from the back panel, so I won’t have to mount the TV permanently. You can use a PC monitor or a television. Chipboard: Excellent for T-moulding and laminate but poor for milling machines and paintwork. Use MDF Board if you are going to paint your arcade cabinet. Add coin operation to boost revenue, but also an RFID reader so members can get free-play MAME. And although selecting a joystick might seem simple at first, there are a lot of factors you have to consider. Fortunately for you the system requirements for MAME are pretty darn low! If youve got a spare computer or parts in the last 5 year, itll run MAME just fine.
